Amelia Holbrook, O.D. received her Doctor of Optometry, magna cum laude, from the University of Houston’s College of Optometry, and completed her undergraduate studies in Biochemistry and Genetics at Texas A&M University.

Dr. Holbrook founded Memorial Eye Center in 1990 with the mission of forming a team of independent doctors and optometric professionals who were united in a commitment to provide exceptional eye health exams and customized eyewear solutions.

Dr. Holbrook has held various positions on the Board of the Harris County Optometric Society and has provided optometric humanitarian aid in Guatemala. She has extensive experience in virtually all aspects of optometry and is a leader at incorporating new technologies to advance the proficiency of comprehensive eyecare. She has a particular passion for specialty and complicated contact lenses and pediatric visual development. Dr. Holbrook is also available for English and Spanish language exams.

In her free time away from the office, Dr. Holbrook enjoys “clean” nutritional cooking, gardening, photography, country and western dancing, and has a fondness for animals of all shapes and sizes.

Originally from Warren, Michigan, Dr. John Tavares relocated to Houston in 1995. Dr. Tavares began his undergraduate studies at Wayne State University in Detroit, and later at the University of Houston, before going on to earn his doctorate of optometry from the University of Houston College of Optometry in 2003. While at the college of optometry, Dr. Tavares received supplemental clinical training in the area of complex medical eye conditions and surgical solutions. Although Dr. Tavares enjoys providing general eye health exams and fitting contact lenses, he has a well-earned reputation for developing exacting solutions to complex eye conditions and has a particular interest in preventive care and ocular health maintenance.
Dr. Tavares has been affiliated with Memorial Eye Center since his relocation to Houston in 1995.
Dr. Tavares is an ardent sports fan and can often be found in the stands at an Astros, Texans, or Aeros game. He passionately follows the Detroit Red Wings and rarely misses an Astros’ spring training in Florida. Dr. Tavares also enjoys participating in fundraisers, especially at Hollibrook Elementary School where his wife is an educator.
Dr. Tavares is available for English and Spanish language exams.

Dr. Emily Porier spent her early years traveling as an “army brat”, before finally settling down in Killeen, Texas. Following high school in Killeen, Dr. Porier performed her undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at Austin. With a special emphasis in neuro-ophthalmic disorders, Dr. Porier received her doctorate of optometry in 1994, magna cum laude, from the University of Houston College of Optometry. Upon the award of her doctorate, Dr. Porier joined Memorial Eye Center, where she has consistently set the standard in providing comprehensive eyecare for more than 18 years.

Dr. porier has a wide range of experience and excels at providing full scope family eyecare, with a special interest in pediatric vision and the unique challenges presented with maintaining healthy eyes in children.
